🌱 Budget Approved By Suffolk Lawmakers + Sachem Bus Stop Incident

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Hi there, Sachem. I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on around town. Today you'll learn about...

  • 'Strange man' reported watching students at Sachem bus stop.
  • $3.4 billion budget approved by Suffolk lawmakers.
  • Five new homes for sale in the Town of Brookhaven.

But first, today's weather:

Tropical rainstorm. High: 67 low: 65.

Here are the top four stories today in Sachem:

  1. A 'strange man' was reported watching students at a Sachem bus stop. The man was reported watching students across from the bus stop in front of the Woodhull Garden Apartments in Holtsville on Thursday. School officials sent out an alert to parents about the incident. A police spokeswoman said that neither the precinct's command nor the school resource officer for the school are aware of the incident as of Thursday evening. (Sachem Patch)
  2. A $3.4 billion budget was approved by Suffolk lawmakers. The budget will increase spending by 1.5% and allocate more money to cybersecurity and law enforcement. County Executive Steve Ballone said that the budget "protects taxpayers, addresses cyber security, invests in public safety and is combating the opioid epidemic," and continues officials' "efforts to reform government." (Sachem Patch)
  3. ICYMI: Long Island's Joe Scally made 2022 Men's Soccer World Cup roster. The 19-year-old Sachem North alumni is the youngest player on the roster. Scally was a once in a generation soccer player and will be bringing his talents to Qatar for the World Cup. "We are excited to take this group to compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup," USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter said. "We believe we have a talented group, a strong team spirit, and one that is ready to compete. We are extremely proud and honored to represent the United States and appreciate all the amazing support from our fans as we head to Qatar." (Patch)
  4. Check out five new properties for sale in the Town of Brookhaven. The real estate market has slowed down dramatically on Long Island, giving buyers a little more power for the first time in two years.
