Hello again, everybody! It's me, Andrew Tessler, your host of the Sachem Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now. In today's issue of the Daily, you'll learn about these stories and more:

- NYS Department of Education asks schools to stop using Native American imagery.
- Tamarac Elementary School organizes candy drive for troops.
But first, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and cold. High: 41 low: 31.
Here are the top three stories today in Sachem:
- A Bronx man is accused of trafficking drugs from the Caribbean into Suffolk County. Raymond Soto, a former employee of City of New York Mayor's Office of Management and Budget, is accused of flooding the streets with large amounts of cocaine. Police estimate that Soto brought in more than $2 million worth of cocaine to Suffolk County. Suffolk County DA Ray Tierney said, "While he made calculated efforts to avoid detection, he was caught as a result of the tireless work of law enforcement. We will be relentless in our pursuit of those who distribute these deadly drugs in our county." (Sachem Patch)
- NYS Department of Education orders schools to stop using Native American imagery. The court's decision "establishes that public school districts are prohibited from utilizing Native American mascots," Senior Deputy Commissioner James Baldwin wrote, adding, "arguments that community members support the use of such imagery or that it is respectful to Native Americans are no longer tenable." The decision could affect several Long Island school districts, including Sachem, Brentwood, Manhasset, Massapequa, Sewanhaka and Syosset. (Sachem Patch)
- Tamarac Elementary School organizes candy drive for troops. Students collected excess candy and made cards to send to our military members overseas. The candy drive was in collaboration with the Farmingville Fire Department. (Press Release Desk)
