Environmentalists To Rally Outside Brookhaven Town Hall Wednesday

They will highlight the state's plan before testifying at a public hearing on the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

FARMINGVILLE, NY — Climate advocates will rally outside of Brookhaven Town Hall on Wednesday ahead of the state Climate Action Council’s hearing to examinine the Draft Scoping Plan for the state's blueprint to improve the environment, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.

The rally starts at 3 p.m., an hour before the hearing.

The Climate Action Council's plan will serve as the framework for how the state "will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase renewable energy usage, and ensure climate justice for disadvantaged communities," according to a news release from the Long Island Progressive Coalition.

Rally-goers, including Setalcott Nation elder Helen Sells and Suffolk Legis. Jason Richberg, plan to pack the hearing to give testimony in favor of an quick and fair transition off fossil fuels and against conditions they believe will worsen the climate crisis, the news release stated. Other attendees will include members of LIPG, Brookhaven Landfill Action and Remediation Group, the Sierra Club, NY Renews, the Environmental Action Coalition, and Nassau County DSA.
