State Assemblyman gives words of encouragement to Holbrook-based platoon of volunteers.

Assemblyman Al Graf (R,C,I-Holbrook) stopped by the Civil Air Patrol Suffolk Cadet Squadron 10 to meet with the cadets and offer his encouragement as they work through the program.
The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program has been in existence since 1942, training young volunteers to develop aerospace skills, maintain physical fitness and partake in civilian rescues. Squadron 10 is based out of Holbrook.
“Not only does the program give Long Island’s young people a leg up on their future, but it provides adults with an opportunity for mentorship and the ability to make a positive difference in our community," Graf stated in a release. "I strongly encourage all Long Islanders to careful examine the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and join the ranks of these selfless individuals who are carrying on this proud tradition so admirably.”
According to the release the Civil Air Patrol performs 90% of inland search and rescue missions and are credited with saving an average of 80 lives each year. Volunteer professionals in the group also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions.
Civil Air Cadets can range in age from 12 through 20 and are not required to join the military.
