HOLBROOK, NY — A popular Holbrook restaurant was burglarized overnight for the second time since being part of a string of burglaries in the fall.

Hummus Mediterranean Grill, a Greek restaurant on Main Street, had its window broken by a burglar at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, Suffolk police said, adding that the burglar “fled when they realized there was an employee in the store.”

In a Facebook post yesterday, the owner said that a staff member was in the restaurant and heard a noise, went to see what it was, and yelled out, which prompted the person to “walk away.”

“Our biggest fear is for something to happen to one of us,” the post read, as the owner thanked God that nothing happened, adding that it was “a close call.”

They asked that the communnity be aware and take caution, and also for anyone with information about the crime to come forward “and stop this.”

“At this point honestly we take it more personal than just another break-in,” the post continued, adding that the first time was bad, but they “kept positive and moved on.”

The business has been working to help solve the case and catch the person or persons responsible by supplying evidence, leads, and video footage, the post reads.

Besides the damages the owners have a “horrible feeling” and they “feel violated,” the post continues, adding that their family and restaurant team work day and night “to provide for our families” as they are “going through this again.”

“We hope to capture this/ these individuals soon,” the post ends, adding, “Love you guys,
Team Hummus.”

The restaurant was one of about 12 throughout Holbrook, Bohemia, Smithtown, Lake Grove, and East Setauket that were burglarized between Sept. 23 and Oct. 7. At about 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, a concrete block was thrown through a glass door and money was taken.

The burglary on Sunday is under investigation as to whether it is connected to the burglary pattern from the fall, according to a police spokeswoman.
