  • The Sachem Library shared that on any given day, nearly 60,000 youths are incarcerated in juvenile jails and prisons, according to the ACLU. The School Library Journal has virtual YA book clubs and reading initiatives for incarcerated teens. (Facebook)
  • A new session of the eight-week Karate Program at Ryu Shu Kan Japanese Arts Center will begin on Jan. 20! It is open to 1st through 7th graders, and it will be on Thursdays from 4:15-5:00 p.m. The cost is $40, which includes the uniform, material, and administration. (Facebook)
  • Neighbors and friends remembered Carli Fragala, who battled brain cancer since age 16, after her death at age 19 on Monday. Fragala shared her battle with cancer on TikTok, where she also posted thanks to all who support her. In one of her posts she wrote, "I thought I'd thank my friends and family and community for having my back through my battle." (Twitter)
