Long Island Deer Gets Head Stuck in Light Globe

A Department of Environmental Conservation officer came to the rescue on Tuesday morning.

CENTEREACH, NY - A Long Island deer got itself into a precarious situation this week when a light globe became lodged on its head.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Officer Jeff Hull received a call reporting a deer with its head stuck in the globe in Centereach at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.

The deer had been lying in the woods since Monday night, the DEC wrote on its Facebook page.

Upon arrival, Hull spotted the deer about 20 yards from the road in a housing development. Hull approached the deer, but on his first attempt, the wet globe slipped out of his hands and the deer ran into a nearby downed tree, causing it to fall, the DEC says.

On his second attempt, Hull flung his coat over the globe, bear hugging it with both arms as the deer kicked and struggled to break free. The deer managed to slip out of the globe and ran off into the woods.

Hull was left with a good story and a few bruises but his integrity intact, the DEC says.

No word on how the light globe came to be upon the deer's head. But one person speculated on the DEC's Facebook page: "Hell that must of been some deer party! The deer left with the lamp shade still on his head! How drunk do you have to be to do that"
