Long Island Woman, Auxiliary Cop Saved Her 4 Dogs From Burning Home
Black smoke billowed from the home as they rescued the dogs just before the fire fully engulfed the home, cops say.
RONKONKOMA, NY — A Ronkonkoma woman's dogs were rescued from her burning home, and neighboring residents were brought to safety, Sunday morning with the help of a quick-thinking neighbor who is a veteran Suffolk auxiliary police captain, Suffolk cops say.
Jamorn Chindananta noticed black smoke coming from his neighbor’s home on Baeck Street at about 9:45 a.m. and when he went inside, he found a woman in the garage who said her four dogs were still in the house, according to police.
Chindananta, a 16-year veteran of the auxiliary police, and the woman took the dogs outside before her home "became fully engulfed in fire," police said, adding that Chindananta then notified people in nearby homes that they needed to get to safety fast.
