Man Drove Away From Suffolk Officers In Stolen Car: Police
The man punched the car owner and stole the vehicle before driving away from officers and crashing it, police say.
LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY — A man was arrested early Monday after he committed a carjacking in Lake Ronkonkoma and then fled from police in the stolen car, police said.
A man was sitting in a 2022 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot of USA Gas Mart, at 382 Portion Road, when James Fenner, 20, of Bay Shore, got into the car and punched him around 11:55 p.m., police said. The man got out of his car, and Fenner drove off in the Toyota, police said.
Highway Patrol vehicles followed Fenner as he drove west on the Long Island Expressway to the
Northern State Parkway to Exit 31N, Glen Cove Road, police said. Fenner lost control of the Toyota shortly after coming off the exit, drove off the road and crashed into a wooded area around 12:25 a.m., police said.

Fenner then ran away, police said. Officers found him a short time later, and he was brought to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries suffered in the crash, police said.
Fenner was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree grand larceny, and third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

He was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
