Merrimac Makes A Wish With Letter Writing Campaign
It was easy to spot the spirit of giving, helping and compassion in the halls of Merrimac Elementary School this holiday season.
From Sachem Central School District: It was easy to spot the spirit of giving, helping and compassion in the halls of Merrimac Elementary School this holiday season.
School nurse Kathy Conner had no difficulty finding student volunteers to help with the annual Macy’s “Make A Wish” letter writing campaign.
In total 323 letters were collected and $323 will be donated.

Mrs. Greves’ fourth grade class wrote 198 letters. The children shared their wishes for the world, including ending poverty, homelessness, illness, war, bullying, and supporting people involved in natural disasters.
Nicholas Scott (fifth grade), Sarah Baker (fifth grade), Gavin Somma (third grade), and Frank Greco (third grade) eagerly offered to serve as student leaders to help make announcements and collect and sort the letters for Macy’s.

Macy’s will donate $1 for every letter written to the “Make A Wish” foundation to help grant wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.
“A definite win-win,” said Merrimac Principal, Veronica DeCicco.
