Long Island Weather Forecast: Major Snowstorm to Welcome in Spring
The National Weather Service has issued its first estimates for how much snow we may get this weekend.

You better go find that shovel and those winter gloves because a nor'easter with "significant snowfall" will be possible Sunday into early Monday, the National Weather Service says.
Snow is expected to begin by Sunday afternoon and the heaviest snow will likely fall Sunday night. There is the potential for gusty winds and snow accumulations of at least 6 inches, the NWS says.

The chance for 6 inches of snow or more is around 30 percent and the maximum potential for the storm is around 12 inches, the weather service says.
Weather.com is currently projecting 2-6 inches of snow on Long Island Sunday. The snow is expected to end by mid-morning on Monday.

"Confidence in exact amounts is low at this time due to model variances with their respective solutions," the National Weather Service's New York office said in a forecast discussion released Thursday night.

But confidence is certainly increasing with regard to whether or not the storm will hit the region.
"There has only been one storm that turned out to sea this winter, so we are fairly confident this one is coming up near the coast," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said.
Temperatures on the first day of spring on Sunday will (obviously) be well below normal for this time of year, with a high near 35 degrees.
Any snow that does fall shouldn't stick around for long. Temperatures will be back in the 50s by next Wednesday and may top 60 next Thursday.
