Out to Eat: Sonoma Grill

Good times and a vast menu is always served at Holbrook eatery.

The Sonoma Grill of Holbrook is a unique restaurant, offering a wide range of venues, a vast menu and a staff friendly and energetic. 

The long, roomy bar area has a row of comfortable stools, dozens of tables and a sports bar seating area whose walls are lined with flat screens to catch the latest sports action.  The restaurant dining room is large, softly lit and inviting.  On the left as you enter is a private dining area for parties and celebrations.  To the right is a wide open stage venue, so their live entertainers performing on Thursday through Saturday nights have room to rock the house.

The Sonoma Grill was designed to serve up good times.  Its menu features seafood, especially on Friday nights where there are specials from 5 p.m. until closing.  The homemade pasta menu offers all of the favorites and several unique dishes, like the Fusilli Cajun Chicken Alfredo I sampled.  During my visit I saw many of their signature wraps headed from the kitchen into the crowded dining area.  They were huge, looked delicious and brought gigantic smiles when they were served.

From beginning to end, the service and experience of having dinner at the Sonoma Grill was comfortable, pleasant and relaxed.  We ordered from their price fix menu, a $14.95 special running on Wednesday and Thursday, from 4 to 10 p.m.  The salads were cool, crisp and loaded with ripe tomatoes, onions and a house balsamic dressing that was savory. The entrees looked and were mouthwatering, the Cajun Chicken Alfredo steaming and the Eggplant Parmigiana a small mountain of mozzarella, spaghetti and pomodoro sauce.

The Cajun Chicken Alfredo was a wild mix of tastes, with the white meat of chicken saturated with a "hot wings" kind of flavor.  Every bite exploded in your mouth and the cork screw pasta that filled the plate captured even more of that spicy sauce.  The fresh, sliced Italian bread from the bread basket soaked up even more of the red hot goodness.  You will leave the Sonoma Grill full and even better than that, you will leave with leftovers.  This Cajun Chicken was even better the next day.

The key to enjoying a Sonoma Grill meal is to pace yourself, for their desserts demand a place on your table, even if there is little to no room in your tummy.  The cheesecake with raspberry sauce looked great but the dozens of ice cream sundaes that we saw served looked too large, tempting and delicious to let pass by.  My chocolate soft ice cream sundae, topped with fresh whipped cream, fudge and sprinkles was amazing and disappeared quickly.

Every visit to the Sonoma Grill will be a special event.  Come for its weekday Happy Hour with drink specials and half price appetizers.  Eat, drink and be merry on Mondays with their bottle of free wine with the purchase of two meals.  Wednesday and Thursday their price fix menu takes center stage.  Friday is seafood and when in season, Direct TV and the NFL Ticket make Sonoma the best seat to watch all the Sunday football action.
