Long Island Cops, 1st Responders Help Mom Deliver Baby Boy At Home

The group helped the mom deliver the baby and then administered oxygen, cops say.

RONKONKOMA, NY — A pair of Suffolk police officers helped a Ronkonkoma family welcome a baby boy into the world this past weekend, officials said.

Police said a 911 caller reported that there was a woman in labor and a baby was in distress at a Pond Road home at about 1:20 p.m. on Sunday and 5th Precinct officers Michael Coyne and Michael Ferrara, along with members of the Lakeland Fire Department, responded to aid a midwife and the woman’s husband in helping the mom deliver the baby.

The first responders administered oxygen to the baby for a short period of time, and there were no further complications, said police, adding that "the mother and baby boy remained at home in good health."
