Police: 6 Arrested at Sobriety Checkpoint

Checkpoint was conducted in Port Jefferson Station Sunday night.

Six people were arrested Sunday night during a sobriety checkpoint in Port Jefferson Station, police said.

Police officers from the Suffolk County Highway Patrol Bureau, along with New York State troopers and officers from the Metropolitan Transit Authority, conducted the checkpoint on Route 25A from 7:40 p.m. Sunday until midnight Monday.

A total of 1,467 vehicles went through the checkpoint, which was setup as part of efforts to crackdown on DWI offenses over the holiday weekend, police said.

The following people were charged with DWI:

  • Amy Klem, 29, of Mastic Beach
  • Jose Rauda, 29, of Centereach
  • Dorothy Neilsen, 49, of Setauket
  • Joseph Laterra, 19, of Selden
  • Kirk Judson, 55, of Port Jefferson Station

The following person was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs:

  • Craig Miller, 31, of Coram

Neilsen will be arraigned on Sept. 10 First District Court in Central Islip. The rest of those arrested are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court Monday morning.
