His family is being notified, according to Beyrer.
A 911 dispatcher was alerted to the shooting by a 911 caller saying shots had been fired in front of the home just before 9 a.m.
Friday afternoon homicide detectives continued to investigate, as the surrounding area was blocked off to motorists. A police mobile command center was parked at the cross street of Pamlico Avenue and personnel from Suffolk's Crime Lab shot photographs while some neighbors looked on. Others drove slowly by the block and asked others what had happened.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
