Preview: Sachem North Vs. William Floyd

After dropping last week's contest in Northport, Sachem North faces tough challenge in 4-1 Floyd.

Last week Sachem North dropped its first game of the season with a 33-10 loss to Northport. The defense was unable to contain Northport's running attack and the game got away from them quickly.

This week, the Flaming Arrows hope to bounce back with a tough road challenge against #1 seeded William Floyd, who are 4-1 behind their new pass-heavy offense of AJ Otranto. The last time these two teams met it was for all the marbles in the Suffolk County Championship. Floyd captured the crown, beating North 35-20.

Last week, Floyd defeated Bay Shore 35-14, and will present a new type of challenge to North's defense.

On whether or not the team is looking for revenge: "No. Every year is different. Different kids on both teams."

The injury report: Trent Crossan is out. Anthony Ross is out. Keven Bragaglia is out. Felskie and Velente are out. "We are down four two-way starters this week."

On what the team concentrated on this week in practice: "AJ is the best QB in the division and we will need to be able to cover and get pressure on him to make him feel uncomfortable. Their transfer from Longwood (Faison) and their transfer from North Carolina also pose problems on offense."

Any adjustments to this week's offensive scheme? "Yes but we'll keep that one to ourselves with all of our injuries."

The 5 Keys to Victory:

  • Stay out of 3rd and long
  • Convert 4th down chances
  • No turnovers
  • Quality kicking game
  • Next-man-in mentality
