Nutritional supplement company pledged money to be used by LI Cares and the New Jersey Food Bank.

Ronkonkoma-based nutritional supplement company NBTY has donated more than $100,000 to aid organizations on the front lines of the recovery from Hurricane Sandy.
Through its charitable nonprofit "Helping Hands," the company donated the money to Long Island Cares and the New Jersey Food Bank, which will be used to purchase gift cards and distributed to the local agencies during the week, according to a recent release.
Additionally, NBTY donated 135,000 bottles of vitamins, supplements and nutritional bars to help nourish those still affected and displaced by the storm. Also, the company donated 10% sales recorded through its online transaction sites, Puritan's Pride and Vitamin World.com.

"With so many homes, businesses and communities destroyed by the wrath of Super Storm Sandy, NBTY Helping Hands wanted to give individuals the ability to purchase what they need through these gift cards,” stated Jim Flaherty, VP of Helping Hands in the release. “Because it is a long recovery for so many, we hope that the vitamins and nutritional bars we are donating will help individuals who may not have the ability to eat a balanced meal."
Long Island Cares officials accepted the donations and expressed their gratitude to the company.
