UPDATE: Police ID Prisoner Who Escaped Police Custody at Long Island Hospital
The 25-year-old allegedly assaulted a police officer at the hospital and then fled. He was caught about an hour later, police say.

A Huntington man who was arrested Thursday attacked a police officer and then fled from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center on Friday afternoon, causing a brief lock-out at West Islip schools before the man was captured about an hour later, police said.
According to police, First Precinct officers arrested 25-year-old Alexander Thomas in North Amityville on Thursday around 7 p.m. for several charges, including second degree criminal possession of a loaded weapon, fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, false personation, harassment and resisting arrest.
Thomas was tased during the arrest and subsequently transported to Good Samaritan in West Islip to be treated, police said.

While at the hospital, Thomas complained of chest pains, police said. While being treated at the hospital around noon Friday, Thomas assaulted a police officer and fled on foot through the adjoining neighborhood, police said.
Thomas was captured by a canine officer and his dog about an hour later, police said.

Thomas and the officer were treated at Good Samaritan for minor injuries and were released.
Thomas faces additional charges of second degree escape and second degree assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
