7 Drivers Arrested Overnight At Sobriety Checkpoint In Suffolk: Police
The checkpoint was manned by Suffolk highway patrol officers and New York State Troopers, police said.
PATCHOGUE, NY — Seven drivers were arrested and one car was impounded at an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue, Suffolk police said.
The multi-agency checkpoint, which had Suffolk highway patrol officers and deputy sheriffs, as well as New York State Police, was part of an ongoing enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving during the Labor Day weekend.
A total of 392 vehicles went through the checkpoint, which was located on South Sunrise Service Road.

Four people were charged with driving while intoxicated, one person for driving while ability impaired by drugs, and another person for driving while ability impaired by alcohol. Another driver was charged with driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs and alcohol and their car was impounded due to a previous conviction of DWI within the past 10 years.
Another person was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for possessing cocaine and psilocybin.

The seven people arrested will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
