- Lake Grove man arrested after assaulting women and seriously injuring her. Jarrod Pearson, 43, was involved in a domestic dispute with a woman in his family when he tried to choke her. The woman and a 17-year-old fled the house and went to a neighbor's home to call 911. Police arrived at 3 a.m. and a five-hour standoff ensued until Pearson surrendered at 8 a.m. Pearson was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, and fourth-degree criminal mischief. - ICYMI: Queens man arrested for raping teen in Hauppauge. The 30-year-old man met the 13-year-old girl on Snapchat and then planned to meet. They met on May 13 at the Smith Haven Mall where the man tried to have the girl and a friend get into his car, but they refused. He later met up with the teen at a playground in Hauppauge, where he raped her. Andrew Ramsaroop was arrested on Friday and charged with second-degree rape, second-degree criminal sexual act, and endangering the welfare of a child. (Patch)

- Long Island gang sweep. More than 100 fugitives were arrested in Nassau and Suffolk counties in the first two weeks of May following a multi-agency sweep dubbed "Long Island Wave." "The joint law enforcement operation was aimed at disrupting Long Island gang activity and took 116 wanted persons — 69 of which were gang members off the streets," Glen Cove Det. Lt. John Nagle said. "Members of the Glen Cove Detective Division were all sworn in as Deputy Marshals for the duration of the sweep." (Patch)
