🌱 Sachem Daily: Brookhaven Police Blotter + Two Student's Art Honored
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.
Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Andrew Tessler, your host of the Sachem Daily.
First, today's weather:
An afternoon thunderstorm. High: 70 low: 51.
Here are the top stories in Sachem today:
- Check out recent arrests made in the April 13 Brookhaven Town police blotter. "A Holbrook man broke into two Holtsville businesses but made off empty-handed on Sunday. Police say Michael Mancuso, 42, broke a window at BP Gas on North Ocean Avenue just before 1 a.m. but he was unsuccessful. At about 1:11 a.m., Mancuso broke a glass door at County-wide Ice Cream Distributors just down the road and stole an envelope containing receipts, police said. Mancuso was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, according to police. Mancuso's bail was set at $40,000 bond or $20,000 cash bail and it has not been posted as of this report, according to online court documents." You can see all arrests throughout Long Island in the report. (Sachem Patch)
- Two Sachem High School Students honored at Gilette House. The Bay Area Friends of Fine Arts (BAFFA) hosted its annual high school art show with over 100 pieces of artwork at the Gillette House in Sayville. "With each school only submitting nine to 10 pieces and a total of 24,000 students eligible to have a piece in the show, it really is the top artists we have on display," said Donna Smosky, vice president of BAFFA. One student from Sachem North and one from Sachem East had their artwork displayed. (The Suffolk County News)
- ICYMI: Farmingville 292-unit housing development Arboretum will start construction on $91M loan. The project will take three years to complete and features a two- and three-bedroom flat, loft, townhome, and single-family home units within a luxury garden-style community that will also have beautiful amenities, including a resort pool and cabana area, fitness center, yoga room, and fitness on-demand room. "Suffolk County is home to nearly 1.5-million people and a preponderance of single-family homes," officials stated in a news release. "With a dearth of Class A rental apartments and a 2.5 percent vacancy rate, Arboretum at Farmingville will appeal to families and working professionals, many of whom are employed by the multiple healthcare providers and facilities in the area."
