BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — The reports below are excerpts from Suffolk police's 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th precincts that comprise Brookhaven Town.
Criminal charges do not indicate a conviction.
BROOKHAVEN

- An 18-year-old male from East Patchogue was charged with third-degree assault after a fight last Wednesday, police said. The teen had been involved in a fight with another male teenager at Bellport High School in Brookhaven at about 8 a.m., said police, adding that he "punched the victim in the face." The teen was transported to an area hospital for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," police said. Police no longer release the names of arrestees 18 years old and younger.
FARMINGVILLE
- A man was injured in a fight outside of Rio Duro in Farmingville on Sunday, police said. The man told officers that at about 2 a.m. someone he knew punched him in the face and then left, police said, adding that the victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. No arrests have been made.
HOLBROOK

- A Holbrook man broke into two Holtsville businesses but made off empty-handed on Sunday. Police say Michael Mancuso, 42, broke a window at BP Gas on North Ocean Avenue just before 1 a.m. but he was unsuccessful. At about 1:11 a.m., Mancuso broke a glass door at County-wide Ice Cream Distributors just down the road and stole an envelope containing receipts, police said. Mancuso was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, according to police. Mancuso's bail was set at $40,000 bond or $20,000 cash bail and it has not been posted as of this report, according to online court documents.
HOLTSVILLE
- A Babylon man was caught with a semi-automatic gun and cocaine after he sped away from a traffic stop on the service road of the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville on Thursday, police said. Jahnick Gainey, 25, was seen speeding, and when an officer tried to pull him over for a traffic stop at about 1:20 p.m., he sped away, according to a police spokeswoman. He later got out of the car near the westbound Nicholls Road ramp and tried to run away, police said, adding that a semi-automatic gun and cocaine were found in a search of the car. When he was apprehended, Gainey was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and reckless driving. Jahnick's bail was set at $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash bail and it had not been posted as of this report, according to online court records.
MASTIC BEACH
- A male victim reported that he was punched in the face at Robert Miller Park in Mastic Beach on Friday, police said. He told police that at about 6:45 p.m., he was approached by a man at the Mastic Beach Road park and was struck in the face, but his assailant ran away empty-handed, a spokeswoman said. No further details were available.
MEDFORD
- A Medford man was charged with assault after police say he pushed a male acquaintance and injured him on Saturday. Police said Steve Whitmore, 28, pushed "a male" inside his home in Medford, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," police said. A temporary restraining order was issued, according to online court records.
NORTH BELLPORT
- Local firefighters were called to the scene of a home fire in North Bellport on Friday, police said. A fire broke out at a home on Michigan Avenue at about 5:15 a.m., said police, adding that no injuries were reported.
PATCHOGUE
- A Bay Shore man was charged with assault after he cracked someone over the head with a beer bottle at The Meetball Place in Patchogue early Sunday morning, police said. Mohammad Niazi, 26, struck the person at about 2:40 a.m. and the person was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," according to police. Niazi was arrested at the hospital. It is not clear if Niazi was also injured. No further details were available. A temporary order of protection was issued, according to online court records.
SHIRLEY
- A burglar or group of burglars broke into Family Dollar at The Green in Shirley on Monday, police said. A wall was pried open to gain access to the store and bleach was poured on video equipment, according to police. Nothing was removed from the store.
- An 18-year-old from Shirley was arrested after police say he was seen with a weapon in the waistband of his pants on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley on April 5. The teen was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon at about 9:10 p.m. that same day, police said. Police did not release any additional information, including the teen's name. Police no longer release the names of arrestees 18 years old and younger.
