Good day, people of Sachem! Andrew Tessler here with today's copy of theSachem Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 58 low: 47.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Sachem:

  1. Woman leaves scene of accident, then good Samaritan follows her home where she was arrested. Pauline Ross was driving a 2020 Hyundai Elantra southbound on North Ocean Avenue when her car struck a pedestrian walking in the roadway at about 10:20 p.m., police said. She left the scene, leaving a 50-year-old man injured. A woman who witnessed the scene followed her home, called 911 and 71-year-old Ross was arrested. (Sachem Patch)
  2. ICYMI: Former Sachem High School North teacher and coach honored with New York State United Teachers Humanitarian Award. Matthew "Dezy" DiStefano passed away in 2020 from a rare kidney disease and was honored for creating the DezyStrong Foundation, which has raised thousands of dollars to pay for cancer treatments for patients and to assist their families. "The New York State United Teachers, which recognizes members who make significant humanitarian contributions to their communities, was asked to consider DiStefano by the Sachem Central Teachers Association, led by its president, Philip Barbera." (Sachem Patch)
  3. Suffolk Arrest Report: April 22. Take a look at recent arrests throughout Long Island and our area. As a reminder, if you ever have information on a crime, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-221-TIPS. The tip is anonymous, and often times a cash reward is offered once an arrest is made.
