The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, neighbors! Andrew Tessler here with today's edition of the Sachem Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and cold. High: 33 low: 25.

Here are the top 3 stories in Sachem today:

  1. A video has been released of the man getting gunned down on the LIRR. A chilling and graphic video of the man who was shot and killed on Feb 16 at 1:45 a.m. at the Ronkonkoma branch has been released. The video shows the gunman walking down the aisle of the train and coming up behind Yusef Staine, pulling out a gun and shooting him in the head. Homicide chief Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer told Newsday that the shooting is not random and not believed to be gang-related.(Sachem Patch)
  2. Check out photos from day 1 of the New York State wrestling tournament. Friday was the first day of the New York State Wrestling Tournament held at MVP arena in Albany. Sachem has athletes in the tournament, so be sure to check out all the pictures from day one in the link! (Subscription: Newsday)
  3. A victory for state cheerleaders as New York State reverses vaccine requirements. A few weeks ago, high school cheerleaders from across the state, including Sachem East and North, protested the vaccine requirement to compete in the state championship. Cheerleading was the only sports to have the requirement, and many Sachem cheerleaders were not vaccinated. NYSPHSAA Executive Director Robert Zayas told WHEC TV in Rochester that the ruling "was done in the best interest of student-athletes so that cheerleaders will be able to participate regardless of their vaccination status."(Sachem Patch)
