(Patch Media)

Hey, Sachem! I'm here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Hope you all have a great day. Let's do it.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny. High: 69 low: 51.

Here are the top stories in Sachem today:

  1. Commack woman and mother-of-five killed in hit-and-run in Hauppauge. Cherokee Fletcher, 28, was killed Monday night when she was walking on the sidewalk of Motor Parkway. An accident occurred on the road, causing one car in the crash to exit the road and hit Fletcher, but the driver fled the scene. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Fletcher was walking to a nearby ATM to get money for her child's field trip. (Patch)
  2. New York State has canceled the U.S. History Regents exam due to the recent Buffalo mass shooting. NY officials were concerned a question on the exam had the potential to trigger student's trauma in regard to the recent shooting. The exam was created two years ago. "In the wake of the Buffalo tragedy, it is not appropriate to administer the exam with a question that could compound the grief and hardship faced by our school communities," said Emily DeSantis, spokesperson for the department.
