🌱 Sachem Daily: National Grid Workers Sentenced + Birdies Food Truck

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Andrew Tessler, your host of the Sachem Daily.

First, today's weather:

Very windy; occasional rain. High: 51 low: 45.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Sachem:

  1. Two former National Grid workers have been sentenced to prison for a kickback scheme. Patrick McCrann, 57, of Selden, and Richard Zavada, 65, of Hicksville were sentenced to one year and one day in prison, a $10,000 fine, and forfeiture of pay. They accepted hundreds of thousands in bribes and kickbacks over a period of several years. "This office will continue to root out corruption that undermines the integrity of competitive bidding in the procurement process", said Carolyn Pokorny, first Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. (Sachem Patch)
  2. Birdies in Patchogue to open new food truck, serving brunch, lunch, and dinner. The golf simulator located at 17 N. Ocean Ave. has six simulators, a beer garden, and a cocktail lounge. According to Birdies, the food truck will serve a "totally unique menu." (Patch)
  3. ICYMI: Town of Brookhaven celebrated Arbor Day with annual "Free Tree Seedling, Mulch and Compost Giveaway." The event took place April 29 at Town Hall in Farmingville where free mulch and compost were handed out. The free mulch and compost will still be available while supplies last. (Press Release Desk)
