🌱 Sachem Daily: SCCC Art Exhibit + 2 Planes Collide At MacArthur

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

(Patch Media)

Happy Friday, Sachem! Let's get this day started. Here's what's going on around town today.

First, today's weather:

Cooler with rain. High: 45 low: 21.

Here are the top 4 stories today in Sachem:

  1. Suffolk County Community College: Eastern Campus faculty and staff Art Exhibit. Works of art created by Suffolk County Community College Eastern Campus art faculty and staff members will be on exhibit from February 7 through March 5 at the campus' Lyceum Gallery in Riverhead. Check out Professor Linda Prentiss' work of Ronkonkoma, who teaches Color Theory, Graphic Design and Digital Illustration exhibits digital collages. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Hochul's apartment plan decried on Long Island as 'radical'. Lawmakers gathered on Thursday to decry plans by Gov. Kathy Hochul to allow apartments on properties otherwise restricted to single-family zoning, putting an end to local government control over housing on Long Island, they say. Calling Hochul's plans "radical," politicians in Brookhaven Town stretched their hands across the aisle in anger and said that the state is seeking to take zoning control away from local governments, like towns and villages, in turn eliminating residents' ability to voice objections to new apartments at public hearings.(Sachem Patch)
  3. 2 planes collide at Long Island MacArthur Airport. A single-engine Pilatus PC-12 aircraft taxiing two people onboard struck a parked Hawker jet at Long Island MacArthur Airport on Wednesday morning, an Islip Town spokeswoman said. The collision happened on Hawthorne Aviation ramp, which is in a part of the airport that is separate from where large passenger airlines have hangars, and both planes were damaged, Caroline Smith said. Luckily, no one was injured. (Sachem Patch)
  4. Sachem weather forecast for the weekend ahead. The good news to report is the rain will be stopping later in the day Friday. The unfortunate news is the cold is back and the sudden drop of temperatures today could create ice and dangerous driving conditions. The temperature will drop nearly 20 degrees to below freezing, which could create a small layer of ice making tough driving conditions. Keep it slow and stay safe out there. (Sachem Patch)
