(Patch Media)

Good morning, neighbors. Andrew Tessler here with your fresh copy of the Sachem Daily, full of all the things you need to know about what's happening in town. Let's dive in...

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and humid. High: 86 low: 71.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Sachem:

  1. Sloth Encounters in Hauppauge given numerous violations by Town of Islip. "Fire marshals cited Sloth Encounters with violations, including change of use with a permit, lack of fire extinguishers, lack of carbon monoxide detectors and electrical hazards." The business has 30 days to fix the issues otherwise they will face a summons from the town. Animal rights activists are raising concerns as well, and we will keep you updated on this story. (News 12)
  2. ICYMI: Centereach man arrested for possession of loaded gun, drugs and fireworks. Jonathan Velasquez, 27, fled police after they tried to stop him on Horseblock Place at 4:40 p.m. Thursday. When police caught up to Velasquez and were able to stop him, they found a loaded 9MM Glock, 5 pounds of marijuana, and fireworks. He was charged with second-and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of cannabis, and reckless driving. (Sachem Patch)
  3. Boy Scout Troop 229 meets with Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich. The troop from Selden visited Town Hall on July 25 and received the "Citizenship in the Community" Merit Badge by satisfying necessary requirements. "I always enjoy meeting with scouts and was particularly impressed by the thoughtfulness and sophistication of the questions and observations they shared," said Councilmember Jonathon Kornreich.
