- Long Island corner dedicated to firefighter who died of cancer. A Ronkonkoma street corner was dedicated to a retired New York Fire Department firefighter who died last year from a World Trade Center-related illness. John Patrick Fogarty was a United States Army veteran who served at Ladder 3 Company in Manhattan until 2002 when he retired after 40 years. Fogarty died in 2020 and to honor the firefighter, Brookhaven Town officials recently dedicated the corner of Bea Avenue and Joy Place by adding another street sign with the words, "FDNY Firefighter John P. Fogarty." (Sachem Patch)
- Tina Moon to Be inducted into Suffolk sports hall of fame. Tina Moon, one of the winningest field hockey coaches in Suffolk County history will be inducted into the Suffolk sports hall of fame. - Hospital Capacity in Sachem Area: See Latest Numbers. As the Omicron variant still ravages our area, check out hospital capacities in the area. State health officials in New York reported to the federal government Jan. 11 that approximately 81 percent of inpatient beds and 77 percent of intensive care unit beds in hospitals across the state were occupied. Around 30 percent of inpatient beds and 34 percent of ICU beds statewide were filled by COVID-19 patients, they reported. (Sachem Patch)
