🌱 Sachem Daily: Yaphank Jail Contraband Bust + Hepatitis A Outbreak
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Sachem.

Good morning, friends! It's me, Andrew Tessler, your host of the Sachem Daily. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick dive into the most important things happening these days in town.
First, today's weather:
Cooler with a thunderstorm. High: 68 low: 60.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Sachem:
- Inmate busted bringing contraband into Yaphank Jail. William Santiago, 36, of Holtsville, was caught during booking trying to bring razor blades, drugs, lighting and more into the facility. Sheriff Errol Toulon said, "These vigilant correction officers and investigators prevented possible seriously injury or the loss of life of both staff and inmates alike with this discovery. These razor blades could have been used both here in the Suffolk County Correctional Facility and upstate in prison. I salute their hard work and commend them for their diligence in keeping Suffolk County safe." (Patch)
- Hepatitis A outbreak linked to strawberries sold in stores. Many stores in New York potentially sold the strawberries, so make sure you click the link to see what stores are on the list. "If you are unsure of what brand you purchased, when you purchased your strawberries, or where you purchased them from prior to freezing them, the strawberries should be thrown away," the FDA advised in a statement. - ICYMI: Long Island schools will have extra patrols by police through the end of the school year. "The Suffolk County Police Department offers its deepest condolences to the Robb Elementary School community, as well as the law enforcement officers who responded to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas," Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison stated. "This tragic act of violence against children and school staff inside what should be a safe haven is unfathomable and a parent's worst nightmare. While there are currently no credible threats in Suffolk County, the department is monitoring the ongoing investigation and will be increasing patrols around school buildings out of an abundance of caution." Gov. Kathy Hochul announced shortly after this statement that the patrols would continue through the year. (Huntington Patch)
