Sachem Library Offers New English Classes
No registration, no fees, just learning a new language.

Next week, the Sachem Public Library will begin hosting weekly English language classes for free.
The course is open registration and will run on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
“We want to fill that need in the community,” said Ann Marie Tognella, who works in the community services department at the library. “The library is a great venue for this. Knowing that people from all walks of life, from a variety of countries and cultures will take advantage of the service, it’s great.”

She’s worked as a tutor for Suffolk Literacy and has been tutoring individuals one-on-one with great success.

“We work on improving their English speech and conversation,” she said. “I’m not attempting to teach them the King’s English, but instead, day-to-day life skills. When you’re from another country it can be very hard learning a new language.”
The class will focus on valuable and practical lessons, revolving around everyday activities like shopping, going to the doctor’s office or ordering a pizza.
Classes begin Tuesday, March 1 and will take place in Meeting Room A in the basement of the library.
