Suffolk Cops Release Vehicle Description In Fatal Holbrook Hit-And-Run

A white Jeep Grand Cherokee with with right quarter panel damage is believed to be involved, cops say.

HOLBROOK, NY — Suffolk police have released the description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Holbrook man on Sunday.

Investigators are searching for a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with the model year of 2016 or newer that very likely has sustained right front quarter panel damage, police said Tuesday evening.

A passing motorist called 911 at about 6:45 a.m. on Sunday to report a body on the side of Veterans Memorial Highway at Grundy Avenue, police said, adding that investigators determined a man was crossing eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway when he was struck by a vehicle that sped away without stopping.

Alan Lepre, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Lepre was the second pedestrian killed in about 10 hours in Suffolk.

James Beck, 57, of Huntington Station was struck and killed in Huntington Station at about 8:45 p.m. on Saturday. No charges were filed.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the fatal crash to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police.
