Suspect In Long Island Expressway Hit-And-Run Seen Inspecting Vehicle After Crash: Cops

RONKONKOMA, NY — Suffolk are seeking the public’s help in finding the driver they say sped away from a fatal hit-and-run in Ronkonkoma earlier this month.
Robert Twiford was struck after he got out of his parked his vehicle on the off-ramp of the eastbound Long Island Expressway at exit 60 on Dec. 5 at about 8 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle that sped away stopped on Garrity Avenue in Ronkonkoma, about one-half mile from the crash, and got out of his vehicle, which is described as a light-colored, possibly gray, 2015 to 2018 Ford Focus hatchback, and examined it with a flashlight, a short time after the crash, police said.

Twiford, 61, of Melville, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Suffolk Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Anyone with information about the crash can submit an anonymous tip by calling 1-800-220-TIPS, using a mobile app, which can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play by searching P3 Tips.
Tips can also be submitted online at www.P3Tips.com. All calls, text messages, and emails will be kept confidential, police said.
