The Musician's Place Offers Wide Selection

Holbrook shop had rock/jazz camp and supports lessons for many instruments.

The Musician's Place in Holbrook has been a dream come true for many Sachem residents.

"There was a music shop nearby years ago, but it closed," said owner Theresa Dellacave. "No one really opened another one up, so I said, 'Why not?'"

Dellacave, who owns The Musician's Place with her husband Guy, says there is a long history of music in her family.  She grew up in Holbrook, and is a Sachem resident. Uniquely, she has learned about owning a business from her father, who owns Bruno's Barber Shop. Building upon this inspiration and knowledge, Dellacave is, "Living out [her] childhood dream," owning The Musician's Place, which is located at 386 Furrows Road in Holbrook.

Though it may seem small from the outside, The Musician's Place is very elaborate on the inside.  The shop offers lessons, and has a number of small private rooms set aside for different instrument instruction. Each room is designated for a particular instrument and is set up with the necessary equipment.  Lessons are taught by a variety of teachers who come in and take their time to teach.

According to Dellacave, lessons are offered in everything from voice, to guitar, drums and woodwind instruments.

"I'm still looking for someone who can teach the harp," she said.  "It might sound funny, but every now and then we get a call asking if we can teach it.  So I'm working on it."

This dedication to customer satisfaction facilitates the small business' success in the Sachem community.

In addition to lessons, The Musician's Place focuses on the sale of instruments.  They have a full stock of band and orchestra instruments, sheet music and various accessories.  Additionally, if a customer has a request, they are willing to special order anything they do not have.

During the school year, the music shop rents out instruments to students involved in their school's band and orchestra.  It is the characteristic which links The Musician's Place to the Sachem community.

"The feedback has been so positive," said Dellacave.

Commenting on the elaborate selection, she said, "We haven't been open long, but people who come in now who saw it in the beginning can't believe the difference.  It's grown so much."

This summer The Musician's Place has held a very special two week Rock and Jazz Band Camp.  The camp welcomed musician's of any and all levels, and taught them how to play together.  Organized by the Dellacave's, the same instructors who teach private lessons, worked with the students in the camp.  Rock and Jazz Camp was held each morning for an hour during the two week period and culminated in a concert on Saturday, right outside of The Musician's Place.

While the Musician's Place is new to the Sachem community, the future is bright.  As Dellacave explained, she and her husband plan only to expand their selection and offer more as time goes on.

"I love owning it," said Dellacave.  "It's been great so far."
