If convicted, she faces up to 25 years to life in prison based on the top charge.

Patch has reached out to her defense attorney, Ian Fitzgerald of Central Islip.

Tierney said that after forcing her way into McCoy's home and shooting him in the head, he was left to endure countless surgeries and unimaginable pain before he ultimately lost
his life.

“My office will ensure this defendant is held accountable
for the suffering she allegedly caused," he added.

In the early afternoon hours of Oct. 20, 2024, Sanders
broke into McCoy's home, pointed a gun at him and his wife, and demanded money, then during a struggle, McCoy was overpowered, and Sanders shot him in the face
for not complying with her demands, according to prosecutors.

Sanders then pointed the gun at McCoy's wife, but she was able to run outside to safety, and Sanders then sped away in her vehicle, driving all the way back to North Carolina, prosecutors said.

McCoy was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries, which included a traumatic brain injury and extensive blood loss, according to prosecutors.

After over a year of multiple surgeries and treatments, McCoy succumbed to the gunshot wound and died on Jan. 24, prosecutors said, adding that an autopsy concluded the cause of death was complications from the gunshot wound to his head.
