You Can Blame Me, I'm Just A Teacher

teacher : a person who teaches or instructs. The person nurturing your child and keeping them safe during the school day.

Author: A Sachem Teacher (Who DOES Care)
You can blame me, I’m just the teacher.
I have no right to give my input about your child’s future.
I’m just the teacher who has done my best to make your child feel loved and support when you can’t be there.
I work beyond my school day and miss giving my kids their after-school snack to help your child.
I spend the money in my budget to buy things for my classroom to make learning fun for your child.
I spend the money in my budget to buy your child a book at the book fair so they won’t be the only one without a new book.
I spend the money in my budget to buy your child a plant at the mother’s day plant sale so they won’t be the only one without a plant for mom.
I spend the money in my budget to buy a child a snack when their lunch account is empty so they won’t have to put the snack back on the shelf.
I take time out of my schedule to talk to you from my home at night because you have a busy work schedule and I want to convenience you.
I take time out of my schedule to sit with your child on the bench when the bus doesn’t come on time and wait so she won’t be scared.
I take time out of my schedule to talk to your child in the hallway when she is unsure of her schedule, seems upset or just looks like she needs a shoulder.
I spend time at night creating lesson plans, working on goals, creating materials, grading papers, or putting together materials while my spouse rocks my baby to sleep.
I stare at the ceiling at night, not able to sleep worrying about your child.
But you can blame me for everything that goes wrong I can take it.
I have a good job
I have summers off
I have a pension
I have benefits
My job is easier than yours
I don’t have the same rights as the average hard working American.
I can take a pay cut
I can give up my pension
I can take something away from my frivolous lifestyle to help out your child.
and...
I pay taxes
I don’t have the right to complain
I struggle to pay my bills
I worry about my kids
I have disabilities and sickness in my family that I have to deal with
I have worries
I went to school for six years
I still go to school to be the best I can be
But you can blame me
It’s easier that way
I’m just a teacher
