1. 18% property tax hike proposed in Saratoga Springs (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Saratoga Springs homeowners could see an 18% property tax rate increase under a 2027 budget proposal aimed at closing a $4.7 million gap. Finance Commissioner JoAnne Kiernan says the plan would override the state tax cap, trim the workforce, and tackle rising costs for benefits, salaries, and debt service.
   

2. Racetrack barns lack smoke detectors, gaming commission finds (dailygazette.com) — After the deadly June barn fire at Saratoga Casino Hotel, Saratoga Springs County Supervisor Sarah Burger convened a Horse Racing Fire Safety and Prevention Advisory Committee pushing for alarms, sprinklers, and better emergency procedures. State gaming officials report alarms are being installed but say key fire suppression upgrades and extinguisher requirements still lag, with a full public report expected in November.
   

3. Former Miss Saratoga Co. co-founds Survivor Support Group (wnyt.com) — Crime survivors in Saratoga County will soon have a new support group meeting at the Saratoga Springs Public Library, co-founded by former Miss Saratoga County Jennaca Jones. The group aims to connect adult survivors with one another, mental health experts, and local resources to support healing after their cases end.
   

4. New York continuing LGBTQ+ crisis line plan with or without 988's Press 3 (cbs6albany.com) — From Saratoga Springs, Assemblymember Carrie Woerner is helping secure $1.8 million so New York can maintain an LGBTQ+ youth crisis line regardless of federal 988 decisions. The funding will operate the line and train hundreds of crisis counselors, with the goal of launching by next summer and improving support for vulnerable youth, especially in rural communities.
