Police ID Man Killed, Woman Critically Injured On Sunrise Hwy
A 46-year-old man was killed and a 47-year-old was critically injured in the crash, police say.
UPDATE: Suffolk police say Miguel Berdecia, 46, of Central Islip, has been identified as the man killed in a car crash on Sunrise Highway in Sayville Wednesday morning. Lisa Hynds, 42, of Riverhead, has also been identified as the woman who was critically injured.
SAYVILLE, NY ā A 37-year-old Centereach man has been charged with drunken driving after a car crash on Sunrise Highway in Sayville early Wednesday morning, Suffolk police said.
At about 12:25 a.m. a man was driving a 2011 Toyota Yaris eastbound on Sunrise Highway, near Exit 50, when the car struck "the center median, followed by the guardrail of the right lane, before becoming disabled sideways, facing north, in the center lane," police said. A woman got out of the Toyota, which was then struck in the driverās side by an eastbound 2011 Jeep Liberty, police said, adding that the "impact of the crash" caused the Toyota to strike the woman.

The Toyota's driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Medical Examiner's office and the woman was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in "critical condition," police said.
Neither person has been identified by police.

The Jeep's driver, Daniel Lazzaro, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," police said. He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and will be arraigned at a later date.
