Academy Elementary Student to Compete at Long Island Regional Spelling Bee

Congrats to Keara Schneck and runner-up Katherine LaFountain.

Words spanning centuries and derived for different origins were the focal point of this year’s school spelling bee at Academy Elementary School.

The event, which ran seven individual and two championship rounds, challenged the top spellers from each fourth and fifth-grade class to showcase their talents and vie for the title of top speller. This year’s winner was fourth-grade student Keara Schneck, who captured victory with the word hydroponic. She will now compete at the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee at Hofstra University.

This year’s runner up was fifth-grader Katherine LaFountain.
