Bayport-Blue Point Appoints Alumnus As New Superintendent
Robert Haas, a Bayport-Blue Point alumnus and longtime district educator, will officially take over Aug. 1.

BAYPORT-BLUE POINT, NY — The Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education reorganized for the 2026-27 school year during its July 7 meeting, swearing in reelected trustees and formally appointing the district’s next superintendent.
Michael Miller and Jessica Pignataro were sworn in following their reelection as trustees. The board also reelected Miller as board president and Brian Johnson as vice president.
Retiring Superintendent of Schools Dr. Timothy Hearney also took his final oath of office as superintendent.

During his superintendent’s report, Hearney thanked the community for the past 18 years.
“It has been a privilege to serve,” Hearney said. “This community is like no other.”

The board also officially appointed Robert E. Haas as the district’s new superintendent. Haas, who will officially take over on Aug. 1, is a Bayport-Blue Point High School Class of 1997 graduate and a graduate of Stony Brook University.
Haas began his career in Bayport-Blue Point as a social studies teacher. He has also served the district in several leadership roles, including assistant principal, middle school principal, high school principal and, most recently, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
“I am truly honored and humbled,” Haas said. “Thank you for this opportunity.”
