BAYPORT, NY — Bayport kids can count on having outside fun this spring, thanks to a state grant for a new playground.

Academy Street Elementary School's administration, faculty, students, New York State Assemblyman Jarrett Gandolfo, and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Timothy Hearney participated in a dedication ceremony on Monday, in honor of the new, state-of-the-art playground.

The area is funded by a Dormitory Authority State of New York grant, totaling $50,000 secured by Gandolfo, a press release stated.

Principal Kerry Vann stated at the ceremony that that the building of the new playground served as a STEM activity for the students, who watched the initial mapping and staking, the building of the structure, and its inspection.
