B-BP Students Send Love to Deployed Troops

Elementary classes create care packages to servicemen and servicewomen.

As a continuation of a partnership fostered earlier this year, five classes at Blue Point Elementary School teamed up with Air Force Staff Sgt. Patrick Williamson to create care packages for servicemen and servicewomen currently serving in Afghanistan.

Many of these students first interacted with Williamson earlier this year, when they created similar offerings during his five-month deployment in Afghanistan. Since that time, the classes have remained in contact with  Williamson.

Recognizing how grateful he was to receive their care packages, they enlisted his help in creating additional packages for some of his comrades still serving overseas.

“What these students did today means so much more than they will ever understand,” he explained. “When I received the boxes, it was such an amazing feeling – you are not only reminded of home but the reasons why you are doing what you are doing.”

Included in the boxes were colorful cards the students created, thanking the soldiers for their service to the country, and nonperishable food items, toiletry products and other creature comforts purchased by the teachers and building staff members.
