Blue Point Elementary Students Celebrate the Life of Penguins

First-grade students recently performed a play, "Tacky the Penguin", for their families.

Bayport-Blue Point School District: As a culminating activity to their lessons on the life of penguins, first-grade students enrolled in Tammy Santoro’s class at Blue Point Elementary School recently performed a play, “Tacky the Penguin,” for their families.

In honor of the penguins, the class celebrated “Black and White Day,” as they dressed up in black and white clothing to imitate the look of the flightless seabird. The young scientists spent a month researching penguins, including reading both fiction and nonfiction texts to further explore their lifestyle and environment. In addition, the students created art projects such as highly detailed dioramas, beautiful watercolor paintings and paper cutouts which featured a number count of fish.
