An Evening At Sunrise Drive Shows Off Science Projects

Science Fair and Interactive Activities Bring Families Together

Sunrise Drive Elementary School in Sayville hosted its annual An Evening at Sunrise event on Wednesday, March 18, offering families an exciting evening that went far beyond the traditional science fair.

The school gymnasium was the hub for science projects, where all 4th and 5th graders proudly displayed their projects as part of their curriculum, highlighting the creativity and dedication of the district’s young scientists. They came up with their own hypotheses, created experiments, and formed thoughtful conclusions, demonstrating everything they’ve learned in their science lessons on tri-fold posters.

In addition to the science projects, families enjoyed a variety of interactive activities throughout the school:

  • Interactive Bulletin Boards: Teachers curated special displays that allowed students to guide their families through classrooms and share projects, writing pieces, and other creations.
  • PTA Book Fair: Hosted in the cafeteria, students and families had the opportunity to browse and purchase books and other items.
  • Library Activities: Kelsey LaPort energized the library with hands-on experiences, including Makerspace activities and scavenger hunts.
  • STEAM Lab: Jennifer Horton opened the STEAM Lab to families, showcasing the latest student projects and innovations.

“This event is a source of great pride for our school,” said Dr. James Foy, principal of Sunrise Drive Elementary. “It gives students the opportunity to act as hosts, guide their families through the school, and demonstrate the incredible work they do every day.”
