Experts, Dr. Linda Hirshman and Dr. Stanley Klein Speak on National Issues at the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site
Author Dr. Linda Hirshman is an expert on women's issues. Political commentator, Dr. Stanley Klein will discuss the Republican Party today.

Mark your calendar for April 3, 2-4 pm. The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association (WWBA) is proud to host two captivating speakers at the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site. Dr. Linda Hirshman will address the topic: DO WOMEN’S VOICES MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Dr. Stanley Klein will address the topic: LINCOLN AND THE EMERGENCE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY-WHAT A DIFFERENCE 150 YEARS CAN MAKE.
Both Dr. Hirshman and Dr. Klein are well suited to lend their distinguished voices to topics that are currently playing out on the national stage. Dr. Linda Hirshman, lawyer and cultural historian, will present her best seller SISTERS IN LAW: How Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg went to the Supreme Court and Changed the World. Dr. Stanley B. Klein, author and the pre-eminent source for in-depth analysis of local and national government, will offer a thought-provoking look at the evolution of the GOP, from the party of Lincoln to its current state.
“Linda Hirshman and Dr. Klein are experts in their fields. Ms. Hirshman, who received her JD from the University of Illinois at Chicago Law School, her PhD in philosophy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has taught philosophy and women’s studies at Brandeis University, is also an author of five books. Dr. Klein, whether lecturing to students in his classroom or offering his incisive opinions on TV and radio, is one of New York’s most sought-after voices on the state of the political landscape,” said WWBA Executive Director Cynthia Shor.

Besides authoring five books, including The Woman’s Guide to Law School and The Triumphant Gay Revolution, Hirshman has had her worked published in the New York Times, The Washington Post, Slate, Newsweek, the Daily Beast and POLITICO. Klein has written three books on American foreign policy and co-authored Choices: Custom Resources for American Government.
The Hirshman/Klein presentations are part of WWBA’s 2016 series: Democratic Vistas, Voices of Democracy and is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities.
