Person Fatally Struck By LIRR Train; Partial Service Restored On Montauk Branch

BREAKING: A LIRR train struck a person on the tracks Friday afternoon.

UPDATE 4:20 p.m.: The person who was struck by the train has died, authorities said. Eastbound LIRR service is resuming on one of two tracks through Sayville with residual delays averaging 45 minutes.

SAYVILLE, NY – A Long Island Rail Road train struck a person on the tracks in Sayville Friday afternoon. LIRR service is currently suspended between Babylon and Patchogue on Montauk Branch.

There has been no word yet on the condition of the person who was struck by a westbound train that was heading from Speonk to Jamaica.

The LIRR says it is "in the process of ordering buses, but no service is confirmed at this time."

Extra trains were scheduled Friday afternoon to handle the holiday crowds.
