Long Island Weather: Fabulous Friday to Give Way to Crummy Weekend

Do you like rain and below-average temperatures? Then this weekend is for you!

If you have a nice boss (or he/she just isn't looking for a minute), you may want to try cutting out of work early on Friday.

It will be a perfect spring day on Long Island with sunny skies and highs in the 70s.

But that's where the good news ends.

This weekend will be anything but nice, especially Saturday.

Rain is expected basically all day on Saturday with up to an inch of rain possible, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will also top out in the low-to-mid 60s.

On Sunday, there will be about a 30 percent chance of rain throughout the day under cloudy skies.

Looking ahead to the unofficial start of summer next weekend, AccuWeather is currently predicting cloudy skies, possible thunderstorms and highs in the 70s all three days of the long Memorial Day weekend.

The first official day of summer–June 20–is exactly a month away.

Here's the full forecast:

  • Friday- Sunny, with a high near 73. North wind 8 to 13 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
  • Friday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 51. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.
  • Saturday- Rain, mainly after 2pm. High near 63. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Saturday Night- Rain likely, mainly before 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 51. North wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Sunday- A chance of rain before noon, then a chance of showers after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 65. North wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Sunday Night- A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
