Members of Undefeated Girls Swimming & Diving Team Head to States

Sayville-Bayport Blue Point Girls Swim Coach Nicole Mendez-Chicas shared the good news:

The Girls Swimming & Diving team had yet another fantastic meet this past Saturday at the Section XI Championships. They placed 2nd in Suffolk County! Just competing at the Section XI Championships is a feat because you must achieve a certain score in diving or time in swimming.

The girls who met this standard were Tarynn Boesch, Elizabeth Bossert, Kathryn Brady, Jordan Carpentieri, Meghan Filosa, Emma Haas, Brenna Horan, Jaclyn Kanaley, Madison Perez, Jillian Rastello, Gianna Romano, Mackenzie Thomas, & Natalie Young. Many girls swam lifetime bests or hit their best diving scores at the meet & half of our athletes placed in the top 3 in the county, earning the title “All-County.” This title was achieved by Tarynn Boesch, Kathryn Brady, Jordan Carpentieri, Brenna Horan, Mackenzie Thomas, & Natalie Young.

In the first event of the meet, Mackenzie Thomas, Kathryn Brady, Jordan Carpentieri & Brenna Horan broke the school record in the 200 Medley Relay and made the State Championship qualifying time with a 1:49.36. As the meet went on, there was not a dull moment. Natalie Young & Emma Haas beat their best times in both of their individual events. Brenna Horan & Jordan Carpentieri beat their best times and qualified for States in the 100 Butterfly with times of 58.62 and 59.98, respectively. Then Mackenzie Thomas broke her school record and qualified for states in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 57:67, and made states in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.53. Kathryn Brady also made States in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:07.92. In the last event of the meet, Brenna Horan, Kathryn Brady, Natalie Young & Mackenzie Thomas swam their best times of the season, taking 8 seconds off their time to make States in the 400 Freestyle relay with a 3:41.65. It was an amazing meet with fantastic record-breaking times!

All of the girls who qualified for the NYS Championships, will now go on to compete in Ithaca, NY on November 22nd & 23rd. Wish them luck!
