Sayville Boy Scout Troop Travels to Camp Yawgoog!

This summer, Sayville Boy Scout Troop 184 went to Camp Yawgoog in Rhode Island for their 44th consecutive year.

This summer, Sayville Boy Scout Troop 184 went to Camp Yawgoog for their 44th consecutive year. Camp Yawgoog (www.yawgoog.com) is a regional Boy Scout camp and is a part of the Narragansett Council. It was founded in 1916 and sits on 1800 acres of wilderness in Rockville, Rhode Island. Camp Yawgoog hosts several thousand scouts every summer.

The trip to Camp Yawgoog is highly anticipated with a year-long countdown that has already begun for the 2015 season. Each trip to Yawgoog provides opportunities for the development of life skills, merit badges and a variety of achievements and awards. The Scouts develop independence and hone their leadership abilities. Forty Scouts and eleven adult leaders attended. That is the highest number of scouts that have attended Yawgood in the Troop’s 44 year history! This year, 23 boys advanced in rank during their week-long stay at Yawgoog: 15 Scouts became Tenderfoots, 2 Scouts made it to 2nd Class, 2 Scouts made it to 1st Class, 2 Scouts advanced to Star Scout, 1 Scout was promoted to Life Scout and 1 Scout earned an Eagle Palm. The Scouts earned a collective 116 merit badges and 28 partial merit badges!

Senior Patrol Leader Jarrett Tucker ended his term on an excellent note. The boys in the troop elected Francis Reilly to follow Jarrett as the Senior Patrol Leader, with the help of Otto Cooley, Dan Cliff and Jack Luceri as this years Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders.
