Sayville Cheer’s Visit To Nationals Full of Program Firsts
Sayville High School's Cheer Team Reaches Finals in Both Divisions for the First Time
Sayville High School’s varsity cheerleading team recently had their most successful trip to Nationals in program history. For the first time, Sayville athletics had a coed cheer team qualify for the Universal Cheerleaders Association (U.C.A.) High School Nationals at Walt Disney World Resort. The team reached the finals in both divisions they competed in—another historic first for the program
Sayville varsity cheer competed in the small D2 coed Game Day Division and the small D2 Traditional Division. They were the only team from Long Island to make it to the finals in the Game Day Division, where they finished fifth in the nation. In the Traditional Division, the team performed a flawless first routine with zero deductions, making them one of only six teams to skip the semi-finals and advance directly to the final round, yet another first-time feat for the program. They ultimately finished 22nd in the nation in the Traditional Division. Across all four of their routines throughout the weekend, Sayville Cheer had zero deductions.
“I could not be prouder of these 20 athletes for putting in the work, trusting their coaches, and making endless sacrifices to get to this point of success. These accomplishments are setting the bar extremely high for our program for years to come,” said Sayville varsity cheerleading head coach Kaytie Ferremi.
